Mark these dates: January 31st, May 30th, August 29th, and October 31st. “What do all these dates have in common?” They are all 5th Sundays of the month. And on these special occasions we are going to change our (9am) worship
format to include a “hymn sing”. By a hymn sing we mean we will be singing favorite
sacred songs selected by you. Our meditation/sermon on these days will also be different.
I will be presenting background information to the hymns and highlighting their
Scriptural and confessional foundations. We don’t pay enough attention to the
words of hymns, and often know little or nothing about the context in which they
So start to give some thought to your favorite hymns, and locate them in our hymnals
(we will provide various hymnals for this purpose). So that we can all sing the songs
(from the screen) and the musicians can have time to practice and prepare them, we will
solicit the songs on the Sunday before (4th Sunday) our song fest. Each person will
choose from one to three hymns. Whatever hymns get the most votes will be
selected for singing the next week.
Thank you to the Drama, Music and Worship ministry team for their leadership in
developing this new worship style.
