Your influence spread throughout the earth, and you filled it with proverbs having deep meaning. —Sirach 47:15
As the image above so poignantly illustrates, external influences either lift us “up” or drive us “down”. I use it to illustrate the passage from the book of Sirach which says, “God’s influence has come down in Wisdom [proverbs] and filled the earth with deep meaning”.
Deep meaning is something we all require. We call it “significance” and it is vital to our emotional, spiritual, and physical wellbeing. Without significant, deep experiences, life becomes trivial and worth-less.
Quickly, list three things that bring you “deep meaning” these days.
When the Scriptures say that Jesus came to save us, they didn’t infer salvation in only the most profound sense of the term: salvation from sin, death and the power of the devil. No, Jesus came to save us from also from insignificance; from wandering, wondering, wishing and wimping out.
Of the three things you listed above, how many will be around 10 years from now? 25? 50? 100 years?
When the Scriptures characterize an experience as having “deep meaning”, the Scriptures demand, “a deepening of life experience that will never go away.”
Quickly, list three things will never go away?
If you don’t know what could be on that list, open your Bible to the very middle…the Psalms and the book of Proverbs. Spend some time there daily and the Word of God will come down and guide you to a life deep and lasting in meaning.
You have God’s word on it!
